So last night I went to my favorite hangout where all the "cool" blues players perform when they come to Phoenix.  It's called The Rhythm Room, in dowtown Phoenix.  I have seen several great blues players there.  I really like it because unlike a large concert, it is a small club and generally you can meet the players, get an autograph and photo of them.
Last night it was 21st Century blues award winning artist and actor Chris Thomas King (of Oh Brother Where Art Thou?)  He played Tommy Johnson in the movie.  At intermission I got to meet him and talk a little with him about the open guitar tunings he uses on some of his songs. (I think he was actually impressed that I knew about open tunings.)  I asked him to play one of my favorite songs he wrote called, "John Law Burned Down the Liquor Store."  It was the first song out of his set as soon as he went back on stage.  (Thanks Chris)
I had a front row seat, about ten feet away from him all night.  Great performer, witty and very personable.  I'd say we're on a first name basis.  (At least he asked me my name when we finished talking and shook hands.)  Got a couple of autographs, one on my guitar and the other on my Oh Brother DVD.  Needless to say, I was a happy camper.
